Welcome! The Staunton Downtown Development Association is a non-profit volunteer-based association established to enhance downtown Staunton's economic environment as a center of commerce while maintaining the character and integrity of the City's Downtown Service District. SDDA is a member of the Virginia Main Street Program, we promote our goals by following the Four-Point Approach developed by the National Main Street Center. Activities are focused in the areas of economic development, design, promotion, and organization. Leadership of the SDDA is provided by a volunteer Board of Directors and an active committee structure, as well as one full time Executive Director and a part-time Administrative Assistant. The SDDA is comprised of four committees: The Promotions Committee aims to create a positive image of downtown Staunton and maintain community pride in the central business district. The committee oversees promotional programs. The Design Committee is dedicated to enhancing a downtown visitor's first impression. The SDDA has set about to improve the visual quality of downtown by addressing all the elements of its environment~not just buildings and storefronts but also signs, public improvements, landscaping, merchandise displays, and promotional materials. The Economic Development Committee works to strengthen downtown's existing assets and fulfill its broadest market potential by improving the competitiveness of downtown merchants, recruiting new businesses, and converting unused space into housing, offices, or cultural facilities. The Organization Committee is responsible for overseeing membership development efforts and membership and organization policy. This committee sets fees and determines benefits, and also hosts activities such as Downtown Round Tables to introduce new businesses to SDDA and each other.
