Official Rules – SDDA/WQSV 2025 Downtown Staunton Treasure Hunt

1. Sponsor

This contest (“Contest”) is sponsored by the Staunton Downtown Development Association, located at 1 E. Beverley St., 2nd Floor, Staunton, VA, 24401 (“Sponsor”).

2. Eligibility

• Contest is open only to legal residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia who are 18 years of age or older at the time of entry.

• Contest is void in Florida, New York, and where prohibited by law.

• Individuals who do not reside in Virginia are not eligible to win.

• Employees, officers, and board members of the Sponsor, and of WQSV-LP Radio, as well as their immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling, and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside), and persons living in the same household (whether related or not), are not eligible to participate or win.
  

3. No Purchase Necessary

• No purchase or payment of any kind is necessary to enter or win.

• A purchase or donation will not increase your chances of winning.
  

4. Contest Period

The Contest begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 26th, 2025,  and ends at 12 p.m. (Noon) on Saturday, September 6th, 2025.

5. How to Enter

Participants may enter the Contest by participating in the treasure hunt, which involves collecting clues from Downtown Staunton businesses, WQSV radio broadcasts, and other sources, and using the clues to search for the location of a hidden item. No registration is required.

6. Prizes

• Grand Prize: One (1) winner will receive a $250 cash prize to be awarded at the “finale event” on Saturday, September 6th at a place and time to be determined. The first person or team to find the hidden treasure and complete the instructions contained inside will be deemed the grand prize winner, but the identity of the winner will not be revealed until the finale event.

• Finalist Drawing: All finalists will be entered in a drawing with one (1) winner to receive a $100 cash prize. A finalist is defined as any person or team who finds the hidden treasure and completes the instructions contained inside. 

• Total cash prizes: one (1) finalist prize of $100 and one (1) grand prize of $250.

• Odds of winning depend on the total number of participants and the number of qualified finalists.

• Determination of individual versus team status of contestants may be verified and is solely at the discretion of Sponsor. 

• A maximum of one (1) prize will be awarded to each person or team that finds the  hidden treasure and completes the instructions contained inside. 

• Participants do not have to be present to win. Prizes are not transferable or substitutable except at Sponsor’s sole discretion. Any and all taxes on prizes are the sole responsibility of the winner.
  

7. Winner Notification

• If not present, winners will be notified by email and/or phone within 3 business days of the finale event (by Wednesday, September 6th).

• If a potential winner does not respond within 7 days, the prize may be forfeited and an alternate winner selected.
  

8. Conditions of Participation

Winners may be required to complete and return a Declaration of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release.

9. Publicity Release

By participating, entrants grant Sponsor permission to use their name, city, likeness, and submitted content for promotional, advertising, or marketing purposes in any media without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law. Participants may opt out of this provision by notifying Sponsor.

10. Privacy

Information collected from entrants will be used solely for the purpose of administering the Contest and awarding prizes.

11. Limitation of Liability

Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, inaccurate, misdirected, or undeliverable entries or communications; or for any technical, hardware, or software malfunctions.
By participating, participants agree to release and hold harmless the Sponsor and its affiliates from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of participation in the Contest or receipt or use of any prize.

12. Disputes / Governing Law

All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation, and enforceability of these rules, or the rights and obligations of participants and Sponsor in connection with the Contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
 Any legal action shall be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction located in The City of Staunton, Virginia.

13. Winner List

For a list of winners, available after September 21st, 2025, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: SDDA, 1 E Beverley St, 2nd Fl, Staunton VA 24401, “Attn: 
Contest Winner List”. Requests must be received by December 31st, 2025.
